Top Ten World's Most Expensive Cars

1.Bugatti Veyron Super Sports
$2,400,000

This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today (the base Veyron costs $1,700,000). It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It is also the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph. When competing against the Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared.

2. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster
$1,850,000

One of the most exotic cars out there is one of the most expensive. It can go from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

3. Lamborghini Reventon
$1,600,000

The Lamborghini Reventon is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It has the distinction of being the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car ever built. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a top speed of 211 mph. Only 20 of this model were ever built, and each Reventon is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the driver's and passenger's seats. If you are beginning to see a pattern here, you are probably right. The fewer cars built, the more expensive each seems to be. However, that rule probably doesn't hold true for models like the VW Beetle or the Ford Taurus.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R
$1,600,000

The Agera R can burn 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 mph. It has the parts to reach 270 mph, but the supercar is electronically capped at 235 mph. With the completion of certain paperwork, the company will unlock the speed limit for one occasion.

4. McLaren F1
$970,000

In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car in the world. For perspective on this, when 1994 began O.J. Simpson was most famous for being a football star and actor. Also in 1994... the NAFTA treaty took effect, Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty by reason of insanity and the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Yes, that was quite a while ago, huh? Our point is that even 15 years later the McLaren F1 is still up there with the very elite superstar supercars. It has a top speed of 240 mph and reaches 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. But as with many cars on this list, wanting an F1 and being able to afford one are not enough. Only 106 cars were manufactured, just 64 of which were the standard street version.

5. Ferrari Enzo
$670,000.

Sometimes naming a car after a person works and sometimes it does not. (Remember, there WAS a real person named Edsel Ford.) The vehicle named after Enzo Ferrari is an example of a wildly successful namesake. This is probably the best known supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph, and it reaches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 Enzos were produced, and they currently go for over $1 million at auctions. Apparently, the laws of new car depreciation reverse somewhere around the half million dollar mark. The 400th Ferrari Enzo was auctioned for $1,274,229 by Sotheby's Maranello Auction on June 28, 2005, to benefit survivors of the 2004 tsunami.

6. Pagani Zonda C12 F
$667,321

Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the fifth-fastest car in the world. But speed is not the only criterion for these most expensive vehicles. There is certainly something to be said for rarity and exclusivity. Zonda has that in spades, as only about 10 are produced each year and just over 100 exist on the planet. It can be expected to deliver a top speed of 215 mph and to reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. It debuted in 1999 and production continues through today, with both two-seat coupe and convertible versions available (though barely so, as we mentioned earlier). Construction is mainly of carbon fiber.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero
$654,400

The sixth-most expensive car is actually the fastest street-legal car in the world, with a top speed of 257 mph and an acceleration rate of 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. And what a bargain! You can pick up an SSC Ultimate Aero for just about half what you would pay for the top car on this list, and then go out and beat that car in a race. (We will admit that "bargain" is a relative term in the context of this sort of list.) One slight catch, though: It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced. And, as if to make you want what you can not have even more, the newest Ultimate Aero has 15 percent more horsepower and is theoretically capable of reaching 287 mph, with a sixth-gear rated top speed of 287.102 mph. Of course, your results may vary.

8. Ascari A10
$650,000

This badboy can reach a tested top speed of 215 mph, zooming 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. The British car company plans to assemple 50 of these supercars in their factory in Banbury, England.

9. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
$555,000

The American auto industry may not be at the very peak of its powers right now, but there are some shining lights out there to keep hopes alive. The Saleen S7 Twin Turbo was the first true American production-certified supercar, This limited-edition, hand-built, high-performance vehicle is ranked the third-fastest car in the world. With a top speed of 248 mph, it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. When it went on sale in 2002, the S7 was the only street-legal car in the United States, with more than 500 horsepower and 500 pounds-feet of torque. The media and S7 owners have raved about the car, and it has been recognized by numerous automotive magazines as the fastest American car in the world.

10.Koenigsegg CCX
$545,568

Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Anita Ekberg and Ann-Margret were born in Sweden, but the newest beauty from that country is the Koenigsegg CCX. As the relative new kid on the block -- it was introduced in February 2006 -- the CCX is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the fourth fastest, with a top speed of 245 mph, and Koenigsegg is determined to be tops one day. How close are they? In 2007, the CCX was the fastest car to complete a lap of British televisions Top Gear circuit, in a time of 1:17.6 on the power lap, until it was beaten by the Ascari A10, which clocked in at 1:17.3.
